Bill S (olredalert):

I am absolutely amazed as to how many ultra rare Corvettes you have come in contact with. I think I found one for which you had no involvement. See next post.

----Lee,,,While I don't have any direct contact with this ZL1 I do know well all but two of its former owners. Also know most of its history from when Wayne Walker found the car. At one point there was a south Florida owner who also owned a 1/2 ton 72ish Chevy pickup that also had a ZL1 engine. It had a 100 or more gallon gas tank in the bed full of 110 octane fuel. Anther friend from Coral Gables who owns a beautiful 67 L88 Corvette drove it to Bloomington Gold from Fl. with a friend of his driving the truck with the needed 110. A great Corvette guy, Roger Judski, from central Florida now owns the car......Bill S

Since Bill passed on this one () I'll step up:

George Heberling was the Assistant Staff Engineer for the Engineering/Assembly Liaison group at the St Louis plant. George drove one of the ZL1 Corvettes as his company vehicle.

I went to GMI (aka General Motors Institute, now Kettering University) with George's son, Kris.

Planned auto-auction complex means Atco Dragway could go away

Quote:
After 60 years, the roar of engines could be silenced at Atco Dragway.

An Illinois firm has proposed converting the racetrack into an auction site for used cars, according to an application before the state's Pinelands Commission.

Insurance Auto Auctions expects to spend almost $1.9 million to redevelop the 180-acre site off Jackson Road, the application says.

The track's owner, Leonard Capone Jr., could not be reached for immediate comment Monday. Capone bought the track in 2012, according to a Courier-Post story from that time.
