Interested to READ "your opinion" on how to most accurately refinish, retreat
both the hinge AND Spring........ I'm thinking Zinc Phosphate with Rust Inhibiting Oil on Hinge Spring was either painted with a semi gloss or maybe black oxide ???

I use both gray and black phosphate. gray on the hinges with oil and black on the springs....
really hard to tell anymore even looking at orig cars....for sure two colors, IMO the contrast is important.
