Default Hop Stop Bars?

These are on Phx Craigslist, I have never seen them. Anyone know anything about them. Wondering if they work?

Yep..got one of the first sets on Red Alert. Usually they come in a kit to redo the rear suspension geometry.

They do work well but require removal of the upper control arm bushings and drilling into the lower ribs of your rearend housing. You know how a stock Chevelle or GTO squats in the rear on a hard launch and the body drops down over the rear axle? Well, these change the imaginary intersection point of the control arms and make the rear axle plant into the ground while the body of the car raises up. Genuine Suspension was the popular manufacturer of these.

I took my ladder bars off an installed these. I guess I like them more. Ride is better and traction is good. I don't know when they came out and for nostalgia purposed I might go back to my ladder bars.

Here is a quick pic I found that helps show how they are installed.

From what I've heard, the new thing for Chevelles is those lift bars, as they improve tractions and handeling.

I just don't think they look correct as they hang down more. The no-hops would be my choice since you can't really tell they are installed.

------Mark is correct, although with an original set-up there actually is no intersection point as the short and long control arms aim away from each other. I have been told that for best launch and as little tire hop as possible the control arms should have an imaginary meeting point about 4 or 5 feet in front of the drivers seat.
------Tom,,,"Red Alert" never had those bars until I put them on in 1990, so they may not be one of the oldest sets in the universe. I can remember drilling the holes! They work like crazy though, as "Red Alert" has absolutely none of the dreaded "tire hop". The launch is something someone just has to see!!!......Bill S

Good stuff, thanks for the info. I have had Chevelles on and off over the years since I was 16 and have never heard of them. I have a nice set of Lakewood Ladderbars I plan on using in the future. I like the look. Guess if I ever got serious about racing I would look into getting a set of Hop Stop or No Hop bars.
