Sam

we installed a 5 camera recording and security system, tied in with a monitored cell based alarm. Alarm had some great features.

Here are some of the amentias that were in the shop wand we decided to keep them as there would be some future use, plus they add to the rustic character.

Ceiling mounted chain hoist bracket.

I beam running at front of building.

Our Paint booth doors, soon to be replaced with checker plate.

Suppression system for paint booth, we had this fully re activated.

One of the building features was a swing crane installed at the front door. I really wanted to keep this both for historical and future use purposes. On closer inspection it interfered with our gas line and it impeded the installation of a new overhead door. It had to go!! Our neighbour Greg assisted with his forklift and we had to cut off the bolts that ran through the block (nasty job). Bye Bye Crane.

On the left is what we called the boiler room:

This is what we took out of there:

Then we took the chimney down.

Everything painted out:

Inside was painted a bright white:

This will be home to the compressor, steel shelving for items we don't need in the shop.
Air and a outside water lines will be plumped into here.

With the back and interior of the building mostly complete, except for some minor details we need to tackle the front and replace a wall before we started to finish out our "wet room"

The wall as it looked in May:

Here are some early photos of the three washrooms during demolition.

All unnecessary walls removed, all we had left was the "prison toilet".

Lloyd and I were facing busy work schedules for September and had not done a lot in August due to vacations and other commitments. We decided we were going to demo and rebuild the exterior wall on Sunday Aug 28 with and early start and a commitment to get it closed on the same day:

7:00 AM new temporary support wall built into place.

Pass through was created for building materials extra TP and reading materials. Coincidentally it looked like a mini church window and given the fact we worked on Sunday this was as close as we got to being reverent.

By 8:30 we had the old wall down, you can see the rot at the bottom below the window.

After cleaning, we stated building the new wall for tilt up. We got to this about 1:00 PM after a trip to Home Depot to pick up additional material. See sections of the old wall on the driveway.

We used pressure treated 2x4 on the bottom plate, then wrapped in Blue Skin waterproof membrane and with a Butyl rubber seal at the bottom.

Our old wall was made up of 2x4, then a horizontal 3/4 inch t and G siding, a 3/4 shiplap vertical siding, followed by a Styrofoam :insulation" and them Vinyl siding. In order to keep the same thickness for the new Vertical Metal siding we would put on we needed to double sheet 3/4 inch plywood to keep the outer surface even.

The bottom sheet is pressure treated 3/4 inch plywood and the top and inner layer is 3/4 inch sheeting grade.

By 6:00 PM we were done, all closed in and we are ready to resume work on the bathroom, Wet room and exterior wall as time permits in Sept and October.

Inside view finished.
