Charley, I gave the body to a man named John Carmody (sp ???) in Seattle area around 1976/77.

[/ QUOTE ]

There was a man by that name in Franklin Park (western PA) that owned a restaurant around that time. Same man or relation, might be worth asking?

When I saw the Camaro it was a Candy Apple Red, Complete Body with no subframe. Ric, the little Dude that owned the Wrecking Yard said it was a Factory Aluminum 427 Camaro with no title, No Vin and just a Shell. I thought about buying it, but at the time I was playing with Chevelles and El-Caminos go figure. It was parked inside the yard next to an old School Bus. I remember checking it out and thinking it was pretty solid and the Trim Tag was on it. Ric closed the Wrecking Yard a few years later. I would see him at Car shows and swap meets around Seattle for a couple of years. I believe he had some Camaros, saw him in a 68 Z-28 one time. He had a really nice Gold 67 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible. I believe he lived or still lives in Woodinville or Bothel. The last time I saw him he was on TV at Barrett/Jackson Scottsdale standing next to C LIL,that was last year. That is all I can remember for now. Have Fun.

Is the trim tag from the ZL1 on it or is that fake too?

[/ QUOTE ]

As I previously stated, OEM Trim Tag was left with #27 Body Hulk, I DID NOT remove. I'm certain current tag is FAKE.

I'm the one who took car to fab shop. Not just trunk floor was removed........All floor from behind front seat to rear bumper......

Most of that MECUM description is wrong and fabricated....

[/ QUOTE ]

If you don't mind my asking, how did the removal of this sheet metal result in a law suit? Was the shop unable to repair the damage or just uncooperative?

BTW - About 4 years ago someone who was in a position to build a real ZL1 with all the proper parts and tags offered to do just that for me. Knowing car collectors and having been a member of the Shelby American Car Club I could foresee something like this happening with a ZL1. So for that and other reasons I declined. The big money will bring the the charlatans.

Chuck,
What did you call it when you took the VIN tag and trim tag and put it on another car? "(CLONE/Recreation)".

[/ QUOTE ]

To whom may be interested, I call it an inept, young drag racer who wanted to have his newly built 69 Camaro C/SM drag racer a titled WA state car. The race car was never going to be insured, street driven or inspected.

I was the 2nd and LAST owner of the real #27 ZL-1, having bought it from Alan Green's service mgr, Dic Tutino in or around 1975. I was the one who parted the real #27 out in 1976.

I started the new C/SM car with a untitled junk yard 69 Camaro body shell. I moved the 609965 VIN tag from the #27 Body shell to the "new" C/SM body shell. Was this legal and correct ? NO......,however it was never my intent to to build or recreated anything and fraudulently misrepresent it.

ALL the misc sheetmetal, interior, frame, etc etc from #27 ZL-1 were used on the "new" C/SM car. along with the xfered 609965 VIN tag. I sold the turnkey C/SM race car around 1981 to Alan Martin Chevrolet in Bremerton, WA. Subequently Jim Brunz, Dave Barcelon have owned the C/SM car and it remains in WA state to this day, with all those ORIGINAL #27 ZL-1 parts.

After I sold the C/SM, it was "someone" else who (once again) removed the 609965 VIN tag and along with the 609965 WASH State title sold it to "whomever" had the current "#27" created. The present day "#27" has NOT one assy part that was part of the OEM #27 with the exception of that xfered 609965 VIN tag

I am not going to let some bodies power and popularity, keep me from revealing the truth. I understand I am a unpopular "nobody" from Seattle, whose 15 minutes of fame was over 30 years ago at Seattle Int'l Raceway (or Pacific Raceway back then)..........but the truth remains .............

[/ QUOTE ]

Chuck,
Thanks for clearing up the issue

Soooo... it is possible the original "real" ZL1 #27 body with the hidden VIN still exists, and the location of all the parts to go on the body is known and the VIN number is riveted on another body and the location of that body is known...I am sure I am not the only one who has thought of this, this could get interesting!

(Recreated) #27 ZL-1 Camaro once again surfaces at B/J Scottsdale 2019.............

https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...content=172019

I've written B/J and informed them that their web site description does not represent the FACT that the ONLY ORIGINAL #27 item on the entire car is the VIN Tag.........

I'm evidently TOO STUPID to resize a 2018 photo of my old Drag Car that was built from
a Junk Yard Body and ALL the misc #27 Body Panels I saved after parting out the #27 ZL-1. This race car is still in WA state...but the #27 VIN tag is in Scottsdale,AZ at B/J 2019

This line is in the description:

"This car has been rebodied."

So at least there's that.

And this:

After the 1971 season, Dick took the car to a race shop to have the rear wheel wells slightly enlarged. The shop removed the entire trunk floor in error. Dick sued the race shop for damages and won. He could not race the ZL1 in this condition, so he found another body in a junkyard and pieced the car back together again.
