Default Decoding a 1969 Z28 - Help Please...

Hello,
I am looking a buying a 1969 Z28. I am into Pontiac's but I have always liked the 69 Z28's. My question is:
Where is the vin sequence number stamped on the engine block and trans? I have all the books for the Camaro's and none of them tell you where these numbers are located.
Yes, it does have the DZ stamped on the passenger side on the deck. It has a few other numbers there also. With no POP or Buildsheet, I just want to verify if the block "matches" the car. It in a X77 car via the data plate.
Please help, I would like to jump on this car soon.
Thanks!!!

Ok, I am answering my own questions here. I would like to be correct in my thinking.

The date on the cowl tag is 4th week of Feb.
The VI029DZ on the engine block is:
V = Flint
I = ????
02 = Feb.
9 = 9th day of month.
DZ = 302 Z28 engine.

What does the "I" stand for?

So with this information, the block was produced two weeks prior to build date of car. Am I correct???

The VI029DZ on the engine block is:

[/ QUOTE ]

You have it a wrong. Correct is.

V= Flint
I0= October
29= 9th day of October
DZ= 4 speed only High Perf. A.I.R.

An "I" was used in place of a "1" in a lot of cases.

Engine seems to be a tad early for this car. Check the partial VIN on motor against the VIN of the car.

My amateur opinion is that the engine is NOT original. The dates are too far off and it appears to have a circular machined pattern on the pad.

Is a 3 1/2 month gap too long for Chevy's, for the engine to be built that much earlier than the car?

Were the decks not machined?

Thanks for all the help.

I have 25 02D Z/28s in my database and that engine date isn't even close.
