Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
What speakers are recommended for the Camaro? Speakers in it are horrid (only one works, and it's got loads of static)
Also, bit of an update. The intake is stripped where the bolt goes in on the rear driver's side. My grandfather said to get some stuff called thread mender. but nothing came up on Google.

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Joe -- that may work for a period of time, but the best thing to do is install a Heli-Coil insert. You should be able to find a kit at any good parts store. TAZ

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Plan on it, since netiher AutoZone or O'Reilly's have thread mender, but I know for a fact O'Reilly's has Heli-Coils.

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
This is very odd. It certainly moves like it's supposed to, but spews carbon monoxide at idle.
I'll take it!

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Found a Midas Muffler receipt from the 80s with the then-owners name. Sent him a facebook message. Here's hoping I can find out more about the car.

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Finally got around to uploading pics (of pics) of the Chevelle's mural. Not on it anymore (I like it more without.)

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
This is depressing. My dad's buddy came over last night to show dad the Mustang he bought. He's done bodywork, and while we were in the garage, he noticed the guy who restored the Camaro forgot to wheel out the paint, making it look cloudy. I don't have the experience nor the money to have it done. It doesn't show up in pictures, but it's really noticeable with fluorescent lighting on the trunk (usually when I'm in the garage at night.

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Above are pictures from October of 2004. This is what it looked like with Rally wheels. They were replaced when the tires they were on were dry rotted. And I seem to remember something else going wrong with them but I was 6 when they were replaced in 2005. Pappaw actually wanted Torq Thrusts but if I remember rightly, I wanted the cragars (Muscle car wheels in my 6 year old mind, purely because they were 5 spoke) because that's what I saw in the tire shop we went to. I think he said this was sort of the look he wanted. (Side note, he had the copy of CARS magazine this was in from 1967. I say had because he gave it to me. I love looking at all the old ads and articles.)

Re: Grandfather's 68 SS Camaro.
Okay, the 396 doesn't exactly feel like a 396. My Christmas wish list thus far is:
Timing tab (This is why I couldn't tell you how it was set, it doesn't have one on it.) Shift kit (TH400 feels a bit sloppy.) Is there anything else I should think of? Carb just sorta quit acting up, and frankly, we don't have the money for a new one, nor do we really know how to rebuild one. I feel a shift kit and some timing adjustments could really wake it up.
