Re: ID on a motor?
Service replacement motor. CE= Counter Exchange.
What's the casting # on the back of the block? |

Re: ID on a motor?
Thanks Andy, I will have him get me the rest of the numbers.
The CE number was all he gave me at the time and it rang a bell but I wasn't sure.

Re: ID on a motor?
Not enough digits to be a CE number. Must be a rebuilders number of some kind

Re: ID on a motor?
I have seen CE motors with the last digit(s) stamped real lightly, where it's tough to even see. Ask your buddy to look again.

Re: ID on a motor?
My Guess is that its a #289 cast block . Im also thinking the last 2 digits are there just not real visible. May be too much of a coincidence to be a rebuilders stamp with a CE but very well could be.

Re: ID on a motor?
So if it's a CE (Chevrolet Engine) w/ the last 2 digits lightly stamped, castings should reflect the engine as a '73 CE build?.

Re: ID on a motor?
That would be my guess[and would make it a 289 casting most probably] unless its a an CE8 instead of a "3"..in that case it could be a 321 or 439,but i doubt it. This is all assuming its in fact a 4.250 bore block.
