Do you like 'em Big or Small??

Guys get your minds out of the gutter. I am talking about your show signs. I am Currently having a custom sign made for my
1969 L-78 Camaro but can't decide on size. Just trying to get a few opinions on dimensions. You guys that already have them, would you make them smaller, larger or not change a thing?? Feel free to post pics and show them off. Thanks.

You will likely get some varying opinions on this Darrell. There isn't any right or wrong approach really. All a matter of personal taste I think.

When I got back in the hobby in 1991 I did up a 64 Goat. I had a very large sign for that one and, if I recall, put a 10,000 word essay on it. Turned out to be "information overload" as most people would not take the time to read it all.

I personally prefer the small ones with a few general comments. I keep a folder with me as well in case somebody is interested in a lot of the other information relative to the car. In that folder I keep codes, production numbers, magazine articles for the car, history, etc. If I had some original documentation I would keep copies of it in the folder as well.

Attached is a picture of my sign. I did the design layout myself and then had it professionally done. Size is 18" wide by 24" tall. If I had to do it again I would likely leave off the picture of the car as it probably isn't necessary due to the sign being displayed with the car.

I guess my approach is to use the "KISS" theory. Just my two cents worth.

Nice sign Don! K.I.S.S. is a good philosphy. The picture in your poster is a nice touch. And, in the unlikely event you ever part with your beauty, you will always have your poster (w/ yr car's picture) for posterity.

This is a good thread. I too would like to see some more posters. Bring 'em on!

My biggest peeve with these signs is....... Why the picture of your car? The freakin car is parked right next to it! Give me some cool info,history...or if you want or have to have a pic how about a "as found" or orig owner pic...

Here's an example of a narrative show sign. I created the sign with Photoshop and had it printed at Kinko's on poster paper, then laminated to wood backing at a local place. You'd be surprised how many people take the time to read the whole thing.

Here's a second sign I made for a friend. Same procedure (Photoshop, Kinko's, Laminated) but less wordy and yet still works.

The KISS system definitely works best. When you are 80 years old and the car is long gone, it will be nice to look at the sign and know what it represents. At the time the picture probably isn't needed, but I don't think that it really hurts. Some signs list the options on the car. I keep the in depth information in an album in the trunk, along with a lot of pictures from the time that we bought the car until now, for those who have more than a passing interest in the car. The 300 Deluxe SS cars do definitely have a lot of people scratching their heads when they look inside. Further explanation is usually required. First response is that this can't be a real SS396. I enjoy the look on people's faces the first time that they look at the interior. I'm sure that Don and others have seen the same facial expressions.

Denis, Saw Bills car at Road America and San Antonio this year. Quite a car, almost got my son a ride in the '66 at Road America, Bill had an empty seat on the way back to the track.
