Default Dodge ups the ante... again

https://www.hemmings.com/stories/dodge-srt-demon-170/

Zero to 60 claims are 1.66 seconds (obtained on a prepped drag racing surface) and the Demon blasts through the traps at an astonishing 8.91-seconds at 151.17 mph.

Yeah for a purpose built drag car on e85 which we don’t have anywhere in my state. Yet a Tesla model S plaid will do the same and drive you to the track comfortably. And have all wheel drive I own hell cats they are cool
But I’d rather have a model S plaid charge it in your garage no gas stations , pulls like an animal, comfortable luxurious totally differnt cars I get that but put them next to eachother say take whichever one you want ( after owning versions of both ) and I’m taking the Tesla

They are making 3,300 of them.

The dealers are already going full-ahole on the markups. Like $300K ADMs!

And the joke of Dodge "preventing" this from happening was to mandate that the buyer signs a form stating the price they are paying for the car. Dodge indicated that any car sold over MSRP will be put to the end of the scheduling line.

Yeah, like what buyer would voluntarily state they paid more, knowing they will get pushed back in line?

How about making the DEALER supply the purchase contract to Dodge instead?

Duh!

Called local dealer and they have one left at 100K over. No thanks. Soon we will see 5 at every auction.

Interesting.

Personally, I don't know that I would roll the dice that this car REALLY IS the very last (and most powerful) gas powered muscle car. They want us to believe it is, and "collectors" will be buying them as investments.

First, I am not so certain we won't have gas powered cars for quite a few more years. Just wait until they "transition to electric" goes full bore. They haven't even considered all the consequences; and there will be some that lawmakers and carmakers have NOT taken into account.

What is to stop Dodge from coming out with an 1100 hp model next year?

Remember the Eldorado in 1976? It was hailed as the "last American convertible" and many of them sold for double sticker. Wasn't that a peach of an "investment".

As Charley said, the GT has appreciated significantly; that doesn't mean this car will.

The car to buy now would probably be the 2018 demon since everyone who has one, just got one-upped.

There's seven of them going to Mecum Glendale auction next week. Should be interesting.
https://my.mecum.com/my/search?q=dod...-direction=asc

And the whole "Original Demon owners get first dibs on a 2023 with their VIN number" is just BS. They have to find a dealer to sell them one at whatever extortionate price they can find. 2018 Demon owners didn't get any priority deal. Highest ADM I've seen as of today is $400,000 over sticker.

This isn't like the first Viper Coupe in 1996, where every original Viper owner (myself included) who still had their Viper registered to them, was given an allocation coupon to use only for themselves. I took my coupon, went into my local dealer and told him I would give him $500 over invoice for the order. He happily agreed because he knew if he refused, I could just take my "golden ticket" and walk down the street to the next Dodge dealer and use it there.

Here's the Mecum page for next week's 2018 Demons. And if you're buying one make sure it has the Demon Crate with all the extra parts and tools intact. Crazy as it seems, some original buyers didn't pay the extra one dollar to get it. UGH! And also several Demons have gone through auctions and the new buyers refused to pick up or pay the shipping on the Demon crates. Several enthusiasts have bought orphan crates that way in the past few years. (they are serial numbered to the cars, BTW) This one has a link to click on and you can see what an original crate and its contents look like: https://www.mecum.com/lots/AZ0323-55...ger-srt-demon/

Oh yeah, you should see the (justifiable) anger level over at Hellcat.org. The 2018 Demon owners are pissed that:

1) They made a new Demon when they were promised Dodge would never do that. (LOL)

2) That they didn't get an allocation coupon to get one with a matching VIN that Dodge said they could do when ordering one. (which I totally understand)

3) The insane attitudes of ALL the dealers and their half a million dollar markups. One 2018 Demon owner called over 50 dealers to try to order one and was laughed at my most of them who said why should we sell it to you when we can auction it off instead and make a quarter million?

4) Oh, and the latest method that the dealers are doing to get around the "MSRP priced cars get scheduled first" rule? The dealers are buying the cars for themselves and putting MSRP as the price on the paperwork.
