Tony (TDWZ28's) 1970 SS Nova
I looked for a while for a 69-70 BB 4 speed Nova without much luck. Talked to a few members here about finding one. Nothing came up that I wanted. Erik Barr, "Supercarkid," posted this one in the cars for sale section. I liked the car, so I asked him to have a look at it for me. He did. He took the time to send me multiple pictures and spent lots of time Emailing me about the car. So, thanks again Erik. It is a real SS, small block car. There is a body broadcast sheet in the rear seat. I left it in there for the next guy to find. All the metal, glass, trim, interior (except front seat covers and carpet)and the vinyl top are the original parts. The Sun Tach an SW greenline gauges were installed when the car was almost new.
The story on the Nova, as told to me, is the original owner died about 2 years after he bought it. It sat for about 22 years in his dads dairy barn. He finally sold it to his neighbor, who had wanted it for years. Owner #2 took it to the drag strip, where he beat the snot out of it. Blew the original engine and trans. The 4:46 gears that he installed helped blow the engine. He parked it for a while. Owner #3 and his son did a "restoration" on it. I use the term loosley, as they should never be allowed to touch a tool again. I found a 427 from a 69 Caprice.( Thanks Tony..AKA Scuncio). I had a local Machine Shop build the engine. I gave them all the part numbers and specs I wanted. The engine turned out nice. 449.7 HP @5600. With the 3;73 posi rear in it now, it moves pretty good. Muncie M21 trans. I put the BB front coils in it and had Detroit Eaton make a set for the rear that are 1 and 1/2" taller than stock. All of the parts I used in the BB conversion are GM parts. Except the radiator. NNN supplied that. Another member here, Allen396, fixed me up with some nice parts, like the crossmember, heater cover, foam block off for the small block lines, and some misc stuff. Thanks Allen. The engine frame stands and Z bar came from a Team Chevelle member. MacNeish replated the booster. I did all the other work. This was my first car project in about 30 years. It is a blast to drive. A couple of the members here have driven it. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. Tony

Tony,
Thanks so much for sharing your cool Nova with us. My first car was a Nova...that ended up having a big block in it. Your car looks great with the Cragars on it! Bruce (just a car guy )
