Some of this work was completed in late March.

We had 8 glass panels above the Low bay area and the only windows into the shop area.
For security we added bars which also gave the windows a vintage look of mutton bars.

On the outside back wall we opted for Corrugated metal siding. We thought we could compete this in a weekend , it took almost 2 months before the last panel was up.

Completed at last:

Through May and June we concentrated on some of the smaller stuff like getting the back wall insulated. We had to leave it in this state for a while as we waited for the electricians to install light boxes and power outlets.

The building initially had three washrooms, we wanted to consolidate down to one and create a "wet room" for parts washer, stainless sinks, storage cabinets and floor drain. We needed to open a 24" opening to 40".
A jack post was installed before demo as this was a load bearing wall.

with our vertical cut made it took about 5 swings and a mulligan to bring down the brick.

We ordered up 1/4 inch C beam channel from a local machine shop cut and drilled to measure.

We welded tabs at the top and bottom for strength and ran anchor bolts both sides front and back.

From Mid June to Mid July allowing for attending to our day Jobs, vacation time, family commitments we managed to piece the last parts of the back wall interior. Option one was to clad in the same corrected metal as the outside, second option was to go for a barn look with vertical red cedar, rough side out and stained dark to match the vertical posts. The ceilings and upper beams had been sun bleached over the years and so there would be a contrast.

We opted for the cedar on the advice of helper Mike J.

All boards were routed to provide overlap as there would be twisting and shrinkage as they dried out, next step was pre assemble to make sue we had the right fit.

After pre assemble the planks were stained, convenient use of the paint booth.

Assembly started on the low bay wall

Low bay wall finished and all trimmed out.

The high bay wall required planks 12 feet long, again routed for an overlap and 6 cutouts had to ne made for electrical boxes.

Mr C climbing the corporate ladder for plank fitment. Notice the use of all the latest safety gear.

With 5 planks left to go it seemed a good idea to sign off on the wall build. It was known as the 8 ply wall, studs,3/4 outside sheeting, Tyvek, cladding, insulation, vapor barrier, 3/8 sheeting and cedar plank. WE signed off with moniker we had earned for the construction.

We carried over the use of barn lights on this wall, and had a separate switched box for neon signs for four locations in the shop.

Trim out of door transoms as well in cedar.
