Default Original dealer documents

A friend has acquired two large batches of INCREDIBLE original documents from two Chevrolet dealerships (one in Memphis and one in L.A.). They cover over ninety 1966-1972 Chevelles and Camaros. A significant number of these are L78's and LS6's. Also one L78 Nova and a Corvette in the batch.

He has asked me to market these docs for him. Some preliminary details to whet your appetite are below. My plan is to post all the VIN's with the last 2 digits X'ed out. An interested party will need to provide the last two digits from his or her car, along with proof of current ownership. But first, my question is, on what forum(s) should I post the VIN list? Some sites have "orphan" forums or pages. Any suggestions on where to post the list?

Now for the exciting part-- For each car he has the original shipping bill, which lists VIN, dealer and zone codes, method of shipping, date shipped, Invoice #, everything that would be on the window sticker (model, options, colors, the full option codes including the version / tracking #'s, and the MSRP for each item), plus the actual cost to the dealer of each item. Then it has the two key #'s, the build sheet ident. no., the destination dealership name and address, and info related to the dealer's floorplan financing through GMAC.

Then on the back of all the Memphis bills there are hand-written entries of the original buyer's name, date of delivery, actual sales price, and the dealer's gross and net profit. Also lists what car was traded in (if applicable), how much credit was given for the trade, what the trade later sold for, and what the profit (loss) on the trade was.

For a number of these cars (mostly 69 and 70), he also has the New Car Order form where the salesman wrote up the deal (with options and prices and buyer's name). Some of those also have the buyer's GMAC financing contract attached along with the service department's pre-delivery inspection records.

Here is one example of the kind of info included on these docs:

** 1970 SS 454 LS6, 136370L1565xx, Invoice NL034xx. Ident. No. 3 2227xx. Cranberry red, Black interior, tinted glass, buckets, console, M22, HD battery, Special instruments, AM-FM, rear speaker, cowl induction, Posi, ZQ9 performance rear axle ratio. Key #'s 4F6x and OH3x.
MSRP $4,557.10. Dealer invoice total $3,700.13. Memo $84.11 (included in invoice amount -- I suspect this is akin to dealer holdback).
Shipped by Rail on 12/15/69 to Union Chevrolet in Memphis TN. Received by dealer on 12/19/69. GMAC floor plan note dated 12/27/69. Interest start date 1/16/70.
Sold 12-29-69 to James J. xxxxxxx of Memphis. A $94.26 Commission was paid to salesman Mason, for net profit (after commission) of $180.87. GMAC floor plan loan paid off on 12/30/69. Trade in of a 1968 Buick GS (VIN no. 446378H2581xx) was accepted for a $1,950 credit against the price. The Buick was sold to Bryant Auto Sales on 1/6/70 for $1,950 (they didn't do too good on that one did they!)

***
Needless to say, a set of these docs for a given car would be a gold-mine to the owner of that car, especially if he is lacking any other documentation. To give you an idea of the caliber of cars involved, below is a partial list of the specs on some of the rarer and/or highly optioned cars included (there are many more than this!!):

Great info Jeff! For the Camaros, I suggest the orphan sections of CRG (Camaro Research Group) http://www.camaros.org/forum/

I dont think either of my two Camaros were from the south, But my SS is a transplant, so its possible. Any 69 SS350 4-speed Frost green convertibles on your list?

There is also Team Camaro and Team Chevelle that would be interested. www.camaros.net and www.chevelles.com. Many people here are on those sites to post your info if you do not want to sign up for an account.

Rick Nelson may be able to track down the original owners of the LS6 cars.

Hey Jeff....By any chance does it say what rims the 1970 Nova L78 has? There has been discussions in the past about Novas coming with the SS wheels or not. Thanks

Give Dale MacIntosh a holler at: [email protected] He is managing the LS6 resgistry (as well as a L79, L78, LS5, SS, and YF3 Chevelle registries). He has a nice section for reuniting paperwork with these Chevelles, for example the LS6 orphaned documentation.

This is a terrific find. It would be wonderful to hook up just one owner with his/her long lost documentation!

There is no specific reference to wheels. It does list Z26 Nova SS Equipment. Did that include the SS spoke wheels?

No...N-66 is the RPO # for the optional Magnum 500 "SS" spoked wheels on a Super Sport Nova.
ZJ-7 is the RPO # for the Rally wheels on any Nova.
Z-26 is the foundation RPO # for the entire Super Sport Nova decor.(N-66 not included.)

I had to change my email address at ChevelleStuff due to spammers to [email protected]. Links to all of registries can be found on the home/landing page of ChevelleStuff.com. There are also links to two other "orphan" pages here, one for people with paperwork or parts looking for an owner and one for owners looking for paperwork or parts.

Owners of YF3, L78, LS5 and LS6 Chevelles as well as L79 Chevelles, Chevy II/Nova, and Corvettes are encouraged to register.
