Default Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale questions

Just a couple of questions:

I was there before as a spectator, but a friend wants to go in 2021 and be bidder. It's on his bucket list, so what's all involved and the perks for doing so?

Also, seems another friend from town was there this year and bought a nice green 1969 Superbee that runs on alcohol. I searched the Bj site and couldn't find the car? The Bj site SUCKS compared to the Mecum site. So was he able to buy BEFORE it went across the block and therefore removed from the docket? He's still down in the Keys so can't really talk to him about it.

Thanks, John

https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Bidder/Home

There are several ways to do the financial part. He should read through the choices and decide what is right for him.

Bidder perks include one guest pass, on-site parking, access to the bidder restrooms, event catalogs and seating in the ring. A Tier 1 paddle includes Gala tickets and drink cards. The Gala is held the evening prior to the auction start. Drink cards are nice but I doubt most people drink enough to make it worthwhile. Friday and Saturday afternoon, the bidder bar is mobbed.

Tier 2 paddle is about $150 cheaper, no Gala tix or drink cards. There is an additional discount for getting the app in by early December and they send everything to you prior to the auction.

Don't even think about not doing it. It's a great event.

Ya I know he want's the top pass with drinks and stuff.

Just not sure how to go about the bidders stuff? He wants to be able to bid if he feels like it. Do they give put bidders cards that are approved for a certain amount or once you get your bidders card you can bid on anything?

Not sure I will be a bidder but probably on say cars upto 80K range if I don't buy something before hand. Be he said he might buy some multiples if we think there selling right. Who knows till then.

Thanks

Are you sure it was from BJ?
There are actually many auctions going on in Scottsdale concurrent with BJ.
Gooding, Russo and Steele, Leake, Bonhams, and Sotheby's are also happening.
There is also many private sales at that time due to the influx of buyers. A good place to look for those is Pavillions. A member here posts many Pavillions pictures to give you an idea.

For some reason, people like to say "it's a Barrett Jackson car" like that somehow makes it better. If you go to the auctions you will see they also sell a lot of junk, especially mid week cars that don't pay extra for a good time slot.

Leake was pathetic. We were there Thursday afternoon, very poorly attended. Lots of consigned cars but not much else.

There was a group of guys at Mecum where this guy bought a '68 BLUE Hemi Roadrunner 2 years ago. They hit Mecum first, then Bj as they have places in Florida.

He text the pictures to a friend and saying he bought it at Bj??? Who knows sometimes.

I don't think the early in the auction cars are junk, more drivers or less desirable. I posted about a few at I think Mecum Chicago and they were early cars that were not badly priced.

A bank letter of credit will help establish his buy limit at B/J or he can post a cash bond and that will provide a limit as well. So $20,000 cash allows you 5x the credit or $100k. I haven't done that in a long time so not 100% on the details and if they still allow this.

Once the bidding starts no one is really paying attention to your credit limit.

Once a car is under contract with any auction house, it would be highly unlikely that a purchase was made prior to the cars run time and that the car was pulled from the line up. With that said sometimes cars with discovered issues are pulled and deals are made off the block, but under the umbrella of the auction house.

he may have bought the car from the non-auction cars...they used to be a tent at the back on the polo fields..this year it was indoors at the Equestrian center...

This was one such car...that was for sale, but not in the auction:

I recommend the Muscle Lounge (Sky Box) if you can swing it. This is what I would call the average seat and view during peak periods since seating is first come first served.

Food, drinks and extras. You are given a wrist band to gain access.
