Default Undiagnosed cancer passed to transplant recipients

I am sure this will hit home with a few here and I am sorry for your pain. This has been in my lap for a year and recent discoveries have torn open many local hearts. When my son's buddy passed a year ago, his parents were advised that donating his organs would be a great gesture. What has happened is beyond comprehension. Tonight this will be on the three major broadcast news channels. I only hope they treat this with the respect it deserves.

I am no friend of the media.

Thanks for your time. - Chris

saw this on the local news and in todays paper.just horrifying news.this kids parents can hold there heads high of course they only were looking to help others.as far as stony brook hospital news coming out of this hospital in recent years is lets just say less than exemplary. i myself could have had a horror story with a misdiagnosis on my youngest daughter if i had not taken her to another hospital that same night it could have been another story.god bless this family and the other familys that were affected......................

Wow...that's sad.

Kudos to the family that was willing to donate their childs organs when a tragic event happened in their life...

One thing that we are always on the lookout with Holly is any type of tumor...since she is immune suppressed (compromised)..the chances of any type of lymphoma, etc. are elevated quite a bit.

We know of quite a few children that have developed tumors in their lungs, brains and kidneys to name a few...

Don't underestimate the power and importance of the bodies immune system...

I will say prayers for all the people involved in this tragic event....Puts everything back into perspective.

Truly sad news - Our prayers and sympathies go out to everyone involved. Such added sorrow to come from a tragic death boggles the mind.

It is very sad indeed that the Hospital dropped the ball in this case. Like Bruce said The Family was only trying to help others during there time of tragedy and loss of a loved one. Hope this does not cause anyone to not be a Donor to help others in the future and for people waiting for donated organs not to give up or make a decision not to recieve a transplant. There are certain risks with any type of organ transplant, surgery, hospital stay for that fact, there just are no guarantees like buying a new appliance.
Although it is very sad that this has happened it does not stop me from wanting a heart transplant, without one I live A life unable to do much activities at all other than tinker a bit and am always wondering if my heart is going to give up or get worse before I am a recipient. So I hope that I will be able to recieve a heart one day. Although waiting for a organ to be donated I know that others must suffer a tragic loss in there lives in order for me to receive an organ that I need! and that is a troubling thought in itself for me.
It is also very scary thinking of being an organ transplant patient, anything can go wrong but you always try to think of the positive things to happen. Like the family in this story the positive thing that happened is they made a decision to help others and gave the gift of life. It is the Hospital that caused the negative to happen in this case by not doing there job properly! not the Giving Family. God Bless all the Donors and there Families,The Doctors and Nurses that do the transplants and all involved with transplants! And all the people that are transplant patients and have recieved a transplant! without these people doing what they do! people waiting for organ transplants and people recieving them would have little hope left!
And I send my sincere Prayers to all the Families involved in this tragic story of good intentions gone terribly wrong.

Bobby
