I hear what you're saying, but in the Los Angeles area and I'm sure other large metropolitan areas, it's better to trailer cars to a show at a distance than try to drive it with tall gears and in stop-n-go traffic. Even if it's somewhat open traffic and you've got at least 3.73-4.10 gears at 65 you're doing over 3k RPMs, for say an 1-1 1/2 hours straight on the freeway around here. I'm not crazy about doing that.

I have a garage and a building full of cars and memorabilia. Some people call it a museum. I see the cars and the stuff as art, and like most of us many are stored in car capsules. Some are prepped for long term storage, some I drive. The ones I drive do have 35 to 50 year old tires and some are tubed for safety and inspected Like you I have committed to the preservation of the cars and the history and that's what I like. Some guys like to get them out and bang gears and roast the tires. To each his own. |

Boy judging from the comments here I don't know why you guys would bother to attend a car show if it frustrates you so much. I to get frustrated by a number of things at car shows but I think we need to enjoy them while we can because the next generation seems to have less interest than we do. I for one appreciate the perfectly restored cars that are pampered, trailered, manicured and proudly displayed for our viewing pleasure. I can see the daily drivers at the local street cruises.

Here’s the thing on the trailer cars, ok, so when I drive 3 hours to a show, when I get there, I’ll walk around and see friends and look at cars, grab a beer, you get your a$$ over and detail my Car and engine bay for like 3 hours.
And if it rains, you got somewhere to put it. Last edited by Burd; 03-28-2020 at 03:56 PM. |

Exactly. That’s why I just do cruise Ins and cars and coffee, idiots have ruined shows for me. Then no one brought this up, some shows are on black top, nice, the judges should sit there on the hot black top all day and cook, just to get a plastic trophy or nothing, cause the judges buddy got your award, with the new Camaro. |

Same here -- after that little boy broke the mirror off the door on my Corvette I never put it another car show. Just not worth it -- take the car to the show on Friday morning, baby sit it all weekend and take it home Sunday PM. No MORE!!!

Myself, I don’t trailer my car, I do drive to shows. Shows far away a trailer is the only
way to go, I know a few that break down on the way to these shows 3-4 hours away. And all the cleaning, if I win the lotto, I’ll buy a COPO and cut a hole in the hood for a mr gasket chrome air cleaner, for the lovers of all cars, make sure you come by at the show and say great job Burd, I love what you did. |

Guys who hang around your car until you come back and then tell you what's wrong with it. Guys who ask is this your car and then tell you all about the one they had back in the old days and as soon as they finish they walk away.
Camaro experts who insist that because spoilers are in the '67 assembly manual that they were available on '67s from the factory. Camaro experts who insist that air conditioning was available on '67 396 cars and when challenged they say a buddy has two of them. Can I see them? Oh no, super secret location, no one but the expert has ever seen them. And yes, all the first-gens with SS/Z stuff, wrong Rally caps, cowl hoods done to death, etc. Fun thread. I needed some laughs!! |
