Default 1968 KO 4.88 12 bolt

I came across this 1968 KO code 4.88 12 bolt housing. It’s a empty housing with the caps and is not pitted at all. How many of these were ordered in 68 Chevelle’s?

Nice. Not too common.
I've had 2 '68 Camaro's with BX rears, never a Chevelle.

Back when the cars were new, we had a 68 L-78 Chevelle with a factory ordered 4.56 axle and another L-78 with a 4.88 factory gear.

We also had a 67 Chevelle L-79 with a factory 4.88 gear and he traded this car in on a 68 Camaro L-78 with a 4.88 factory gear.

They were rare with the deep gear sets, but there were some ordered new.

Great stories Craig also cool how deep axle cars are getting more recognition now w/ definition of the cars Factory Equipped.
Things changed after '68 and Copo 9511 became necessary to get '69 Chevrolets w/ 4:56 or taller factory rears but cool today is how opportunities still exist of finding some of these under appreciated '69 A + F Body real Factory Performance Copo cars!

Wow. How unusual is that to find something dated Feb. 29. Only happens every four years.

If you end up owning it, I would think it would bring a lot more with a set of GM 4.88 gears. I happen to have a set, but don't remember the dates. Let me know if you are interested, I can check the dates. Wouldn't make sense to get GM gears unless they pre-date your axle.

I have a complete BX rear here. I don't even recall what car it came out of but I've kept it around for my Z. I've never seen another one. Pretty cool find TopRat.

I have a KO 488 68 chevelle rear. It is dated real early around Sept of 67. Odd thing is the center section has a casting date around Aug 67 but is a 67 chevelle casting number.
