1967 Camaro Convertible L78 MQ Block 124677N221349
I decided to order an NCRS report on the MQ block in my garage. My first request for a coupe vin wasn't in their system. Tried again with a convertible vin and got a hit.
With 113 L78 Convertibles in 1967, I was told this block is too late to be a pace car? Anyone have any idea what car this may have belonged to? Stamp T0503MQ 7N221349 Casting Number 406 Casting Date D11 Production Date: 5/17/1967 Dealer Zone: #28 Dealer GM Code: #584 Dealer Name: The South East Chevrolet Company Dealer Location: Cleveland, Ohio |

I know a '67 396 convert locally, but I thought his tag was a 4N. Currently has a period correct 427 in it. I'll see if I can make contact with him and check his vin.

That is a tight production window. May be late for a track car, but could have been ordered as a Pacesetter?

My car is 230691, built first week in June. This block is probably last of May car or maybe first week of June.

The block has been sent to Ohio for repair and build.
Gary Dyer says he "picked it up at a swapmeet in Indy" many decades ago. He thinks the block froze in the winter causing some cracks in the cylinders. The block is almost .040 over. There were "H" stamps on the oil pan mating surface below the fuel pump and "25219" stamped on the starter mounting surface. Just keeping the story updated on this block in case it rings a bell for anyone. Last edited by jbtech; 06-12-2023 at 02:29 AM. |

Is it possible the car is an 05A car or earlier?

----Don't know about the rest of the Ohio guys, but I'm not familiar with Southeast Chevrolet. As a young kid I thought I had visited every Chevy dealer between Cleveland and Akron at one time or another.....Bill S
