Just a curiosity question....

There are a lot of '71 LT1 parts missing from this engine. Unless the VIN on the engine matches YOUR specific car, is this engine really worth anymore than a run-of-the-mill 1971 350 bored .040 over with Edelbrock heads?

In my mind, this isn't anything special, but I'm anxious to hear other opinions.

I'm sure opinions will vary...but from my point of view, the hierarchy of preference would be:

1) original born with block to the car
2) CE block with paperwork showing warranty replacement to the specific vehicle.
3) original coded block within an acceptable date range for the car.
4) original date coded block for the car, assembly date not consistent with the car.
5) CE engine coded for year of vehicle
6) Any other block with the correct casting number and casting date.

Again, just my opinion. I did not mention re-stamped blocks as I have not completely satisfied in my mind where they would fall, although I've heard the NCRS accepts re-stamped blocks as "restoration blocks" and that info is divulged before judging

Steve,

Really kind of surprised on the NCRS accepting re-stamped blocks. Seems like that is taking the restoration thing a bit too far and encouraging re-stamps. Next thing we'll see is "NCRS verified block stamps"
