I am consider an old nostelgic pair of headers for my 427, but they are not a tuned header. Has anyone ever compared a equal length tuned header to a non-tuned long tube header? Is there really a difference in performance? Is there any effect on the engine being tuned or not? THANKS!!

Put the headers on. If it is a street car/motor you will never know the difference. Most street headers were really never tuned headers for street use anyhow for the $150.00 we used to buy them for. When they are corked up you will never know. Look how "untuned" cast exhaust manifolds are! Old, vintage Day-2 headers are the most IMO. Very hard to find not all dented up or rusty.

I'm going to run a 12:1 427, big roller, and lots of head work. I don't know if that changes your opinion at all? I guess I should of said that.

-----If you wanted a set of headers that really made a difference (and that would only be at high RPM) you would have a qualified header guru make you a set of step-headers that cost a ton of green-backs. If you want the header "mistique" buy any quality set out there after getting real time info about weather they absolutely fit your application. Do your self a favor and dont trust just anybodies say-so on fitment. Make sure!!!.......Bill S

Have Stahl, Lemon, Gebler etc. make you a set. OR that kind of motor work was done in the old days also with store bought headers and the cars ran low 11's camaros, novas, chevelles etc. So, do what you want! Its not rocket science.

To really tune headers perfect you should run one or two tubes over to the other sides collector, all depending on firing order and crank design (90° or 180°).
I think this was the major reason why they changed the firing order on ProStock engines, switching #3 and #6 to get a better exhaust flow through the headers. Jan |

Yea, like the sound of the old style 180 degree headers. Almost like a 6 cylinder.
