If the state of Texas were as densely populated as NYC......it would fit the entire human race!

NYC is the most linguistically diverse city in the world. There are approximately 800 languages spoken across the five boroughs. Only 51 percent of households speak only English.

Grand Central Lost and Found has one of the best recovery rates in the world. There might be hope for the wallet that fell out of your bag on the commute home: according to the MTA, Grand Central Lost and Found has a 50 percent return rate on most items, and an 80 percent return rate on high-value items.

A child is born every 4.4 minutes. The next generation of New Yorkers is arriving by the minute.

NYC is reaching new (even greater) heights. As of September 2019, NYC is home to 27 supertall (300-600 meters) towers that are either completed, under construction, or in development.

The subway is not all underground. Only about 60 percent of the subway system is actually below street level.

The "Big Apple" gets its name from a horse race. The nickname "The Big Apple" originated in the 1920s in reference to the prizes (or "big apples") rewarded at the many horse races in and around NYC. It was officially adopted as the city's nickname in 1971 as the result of an ad campaign intended to attract tourists.
