Great picture of Malcolm Durham's ZL1 Strip Blazer Jr! ZL1 #42 VIN 124379N615242 was last seen in the 70's but its original engine exists today. The 1969 Z/28's ran in SS/E This car may be a Z/28 or built up as one

this looks like the picture used on the COPO Connection book
The caption calls it an AHRA Super Stock match basher it may have been a running as a Match Racer where they had little rules and big cube engines with duel quad tunnel rams This racing was very fast and very popular in 1969 and lead to the NHRA Pro Stock class in 1970

There is reason to believe that isn't #42. Durham's ZL1 was one of the 50 Fred Gibb Chev ordered; all were X44 trim level meaning no bright drip rail trim. The car in the photo has the trim. For '69, the pillar rail on style trim cars is shorter; you can't just add the trim.
Legend has it there was a disagreement between Durham and Lustine and the car was repossessed. Original 1969 photos show Lustine sponsorship; gone in later photos. Also vintage pics of ZL1 #4 show it ran in NHRA SS/BA. This car is in SS/E. Any NHRA historians care to comment?
