As a city slicker it's always a novelty to visit places that had no electricity in 1975.

Two different cameras with different lenses that have different focal settings. The old camera drew in the background and made it look closer while the new, probably compact digital camera, makes the hills look a little farther away. Definitely the same location, photographed with different cameras/lanses/focal and field-of-view properties, taken 30 years apart. I think it's neat that the road is still there ans still the way it was back in the old days. Perhaps there should be a "reunion" drag event held there today?

I wish i'd had the presence of mind to find a couple cars with aluminum slot mags and air shocks and pose them on the road with a few guys that look like a Greatful Dead tribute band.

Well, I went by there today and took a couple of photos with my truck. It was great to smell the sagebrush again. It brought the memories back.

There's a hayfield now where it was just sagebrush before, but otherwise unchanged.
The air is full of smoke from fires in Oregon.

Sure that isn't burnout smoke still lingering? You really have the perfect angle on that first shot. The second shot looks like the photographer was further down the road and zooming in. I kind of assumed the crack in the road was the starting line area.

I think the roads been repaved a few times since then. And I didn't have any photos with me either. I just went for an aimless drive, and ended up going by there.
Next time I'll take my camera with a 200 mm lens to try to duplicate the shots. The guy with the El Camino still has it and maybe I can entice him to pose again.

Now that would be cool. If he doesn't have hair anymore maybe find a shaggy wig and some plaid bellbottoms.

I went to the races in Cawston when I was 16, it was great to see the old pictures.
Do you remember a blue 427 4 speed first generation Camaro? I think it was from Rutland and he drove hard. I often wonder if that was a "special" Camaro. I know it left a lasting impression on me.
There was a 1970 blue Trans-am from Oliver that was always fast. The owner's name was Rick.
Around 1977 there were races on "Blacksage Road" near Oliver. A group from Salmon Arm called the "Shuswap Quarter Milers"(Valiant Attempt) would come down as well a Plymouth from Vernon called "Canadian Hemi Express". Later I would see these cars race in Spokane at the "AHRA Nationals"
Do you remember or better yet have pictures of these memorable cars?

No, I don't remember any of those cars, but I didn't get to every race either.
I'll try and add to this thread again.
