That's awesome that you still have your first car Jake and Chris!

Mine was a '66 Biscayne that I bought with my babysitting money ($400). I sold it 4 years later, but I still have my USA-1 plate

Make sure you're sitting down to hear about this fine treasure. My first car was a 'Vette.

1977 Chevy Chevette - Rally 1.6

It wasn't the ordinary Chevette... it was a Rally! The Rally came with the fierce 1.6-liter 4-cylinder instead of the mundane 1.4. It had the special gauge package that even included a tachometer. Dark navy metallic blue and gold rocker panel stripes.

I had geniune imitation fuzzy sheepskin seat covers, a big ol' power booster equalizer / amp (you know... the $20 version you'd buy at a swap meet), 6 x 9 speakers in the hatchback area that were just stuck to the metal with the magnets on the back of the cones, and the coolest part of all.....

Genuine 4-lug Cragar S/S rims with white-letter tires! 50-series tires in the back and 60-series tires in the front.

Also, I quickly realized how convenient it was that the back seat folded down.

Still own my first car.

That's my girl friend sitting in the front seat. We met one month after I bought this Chevelle, and she's been my wife for 23 years.

’55 Ford – bought it in ‘63 at 14 with money made from pumping gas at a Shell station after school. $1 an hour off the books!
Primed it, dropped in a 430 Lincoln and a 3 speed, buckets from a Grand Prix and ’60 Dodge taillights!

My first was a 69 Nova I bought when I was 15. The car was just a "plain Jane" 307 car but had a 327 in it when I got it. The body/floors were rough, was nothing real pretty but all I cared about was going faster. I remember making weekly trips to Super Shops, Midwest Auto Specialties and Summit Racing in Akron spending my hard earned gas station job money on speed parts...

I added a nitrous power shot system, 411 gears in the 10 bolt rear, very good B&M shift kit in the turbo 350. Motor was mildy built with an Edelbrock Performer Cam, stock bottom half, stock compression/pistons, Edelbrock performer intake, Holley 600, Blackjack headers and Sonic Turbo Mufflers that turned down just before the rear axle.

I put the nitrous system on my senior year of High School. My buddy had a 72 Plymouth Scamp with a built 340 and nitrous. We had the fastest cars in our senior class. I remember street racing another buddy that had a 65 Mustang with a built 289/4 speed. I literally blew his doors off and remember smoking the tires and burying the tach at 8 grand with the NOS system on!! Car was really fun. I also had a big ole' Hurst Indy auto shifter sticking up out of the floor. Everyone thought the car was a 4 speed. The trans that was in that car was the best I ever had. That thing would literally slam into gear and chirp the tires between 1st and 2nd gear even if you were not "in it."

I parted the car out and sold it back in 2000 and kept the motor/trans. The motor is now sitting on an engine stand in my garage. Someday I want to go through it and rebuild it and maybe put it back into a Nova..

Thats how I acquired my first love and passion for Novas!! Here are some old photos of the car...

Rich

'56 Ford. Bought it when I was 14 in '65 from the next door neighbor for $15. Running and driving. 312 T-bird motor and auto which was immediately changed to a 3-spd with a Foxcraft floor shifter.

Too weird Dog!!!!

1957 Belair post with a 283 bored to 301, L79 solid cam, 2.02 fuelie heads, finned aluminum vette valve covers, holley 750 and a built aluminum glide. Marina Blue with black and silver interior. My dad and I took it apart and basically just cleaned and painted everything replacing what it needed. It was so solid though no metal work. Paid $750 for it!
