They were right down the road from Jack Douglass Chevrolet and in the 1960-70s Hinsdale Illinois was a very affluent Suburb (as it still is today).

One of the prevalent US30 Dragstrip associations for race cars like this was the UDRA. Maybe they can find some old pictures looking up IHRA and UDRA.

There is a UDRA page on facebook.
I think US 30 was sanctioned by AHRA.

Is there a Shelby forum that is covering this car? I'd like to see the updates.

I’ve ran across so many “ex-drag cars” that were never fully completed without ever seeing any track time at all. I wonder if there’s any rubber thrown up in the rear fenderwells because that’s usually the tell-tale.

... Yeah but sometimes we'd do a good job of cleaning the rubber if we felt like it.

It looks like it was painted another color at some point and they removed as much of the non original paint as they could for the original paint underneath. Just my opinion.

----Lived and worked blocks away from both Loftus and (of course) Jack Douglas (the original JDChev). Loveb living around that area. Could get to work in about 45 seconds driving or 5 minutes walking.....Bill S

Interesting read: https://www.saacforum.com/index.php?topic=19118.0

I feel like the car was fluffed up to support the narrative on the car.

I bet there are still folks out there that know the history of this car when it was turned into a drag car.
