Default 1969 Ford Fairlane Formal Roof

Guys, got offered a car that is totally outside of my world. No motor or trans it would seem, still need to look through the garage - looks to be nearly rust free, trunk floor is solid.

VIN is 9A45R172XXX
Body 65E
Color W
Trim CA
Date 26M
DSO 25
Axle W
Trans 6

Any idea of value that wouldn't hurt me or the seller? Ball park is fine.

That's a (Fairlane) Cobra with a 428 Cobra Jet with ram air.

W axle is 4.30 gears, which means it has the Drag Pack, making the CJ a Super Cobra Jet.

Trans is a 4-speed.

Attached is a Marti Report for a similar car. They can be confusing to read for some so just ask questions for clarification.

Good advice from 442w30...if it has an oil cooler it's a 428 SCJ and they came with either 3.91's or 4.30's. It looks like it might be a 4 speed and if so, would have had a top loader (big input/output shafts).

The formal roof Cobra's are cool cars and for some, much more desirable than the fastbacks. The factory HP was underrated @335, torque @ 440 lb. ft.

Back to your question about value as is...without engine or transmission and depending if it's solid...I'm guessing 8-10 K.

Formal roof Cobra's are very very Cool cars ! My Dad bought a SCJ drag pack.4spd & 4.30's no ps or pb car brand new in 69, and now owne's another one, this one's auto on the colume w/390's. As Cool as these cars are they still seam to fly under the radar of even hard core ford guy's

There were two (2) 69's that went to Dick Brannan Ford in New Carlisle Indiana that were factory equipped with 429's (I know, 429's weren't available in Fairlanes in 69). One was raced, the other was a tow car / spare parts car. Both the cars were dark blue, but they never met race car expectations. I have no idea what happened to them. If a Marti report shows Brannan as the dealer, or some Ford engineering dept, check the car extra carefully.

No 429s from the factory in 1969. Skunkworks? Maybe.

Skunk works, maybe. Whatever they were, Brannan only raced them a couple of times at Osceola Dragway and Martin Michigan. They were way to slow for whatever class they would have run in. They disappeared shortly after.

Shame that these cars were always robbed of the drivetrain to transplant in Mustangs.

Formal roof is the best looking Fairlane, for me. A Super is just icing on the cake. Get a fresh drivetrain in it and make it roadworthy - who cares about the paint. It's a cool Ford.
