Default My olds

50 years ago June 11 this 442 was delivered to its first owner, John Rose of Vancouver.
ordered at the urging of his 15 year old son,an order was placed in Dec 1970. John Jr told his dad to order a Dodge Charger RT with a 440. The father agreed but wanted a convertible. As Dodge did not offer a convertible in the Charger an Olds 442 with the W30 option was ordered.
When the car showed up in mid Feb,a mistake had been made and a hardtop showed up. A fresh order was re submitted but too quickly to notice some items were missed, like SSIII wheels and a sport steering wheel. These were assumed to be a part of the W30 package.
The new order was assembled on May 11,1971 and shipped to Vancouver.
John Sr was a client of the company I worked for and when I visited his business we would talk cars, he was a convertible guy and was not fussed with the details of his car.
Because we had connected over the years,I was thrilled to get a call in mid March 1988 asking if I knew anyone who might buy the car as John had just gotten a new Jag Convertible. I committed to the car right on the spot and picked it up the following Friday. It was only later that day he called that we discussed price.
i still enjoy this car to this day.

I love 442's and 1971 and 1972 are my favorite years. That's a beautiful car.

----Paul,,,My younger brother was going to order a 71 W30. I tried to angle him towards a white with green top, stripes and gut. He was going to college in Florida and I thought white was as appropriate as it would be cool. I never have been able to tell him anything and he ended up ordering a dark green hardtop with a green vinyl top and black gut. Nice car but a bit boring, or at least I thought so!
