Default Phoenix area tuner

I am looking for someone in the Phoenix metro area that can do a complete tune on my car. I just rebuilt the carb and it still doesn’t seem right, bad idle and I don’t think my secondaries are working either. I’m in south Chandler.

Thanks guys.

I'd offer Marty but don't think you want to travel to Prescott.

I find many times carbs get blamed when the distributor is a lot of it. I personally like to set distributors up for a certain centrifugal curve that requires me to do a little welding on the slot and setup a certain amount of initial. I also prefer an adjustable vacuum advance that I also do some welding tricks to, to limit them to about 10-12 degrees, that's all you need from it.
If done properly it really helps response, especially at tip in, and goes a long way towards running smoother, less sensitive to octane, runs cooler, better mileage etc....and just better all around drivability.

Only then after that's dialed in will I attack the carb and do a few tricks there.

The problem is that people with these cars can't get over the stigma of having a numbers matching distributor or carb, and cringe at the thought that it really needs some modification to really get the engine to perform at it's potential. Funny thing is once it's all buttoned up you never know by looking at it, but you enjoy a better driving car as a result.

I went through that with a nice 69Z with a crossram that rolled into a local cruise loading up and puking black smoke. He had trouble keeping it running when he parked and it stalled twice. When I casually mentioned it sounded like it needed some tuning assistance, his response was that it had one too many carbs, as if it was acceptable to run that poorly. After I convinced him to bring it over and let me dial in the carbs and the distributor he was a happy camper.

Anyway, hope you find someone that'll treat it right and do a good job for you. These cars are just no fun if they don't run properly.
