Default DG

Need to frame these , first poster was signed by DG just after his first 300 mph run at US Nats during qualifications on Sunday Sept. 2 , 2001 . He was happy as a kid in a candy store because this accomplishment meant so much to him . Purchased second poster at swap meet couple years earlier and finding out DG would be at Super Chevy in Columbus (National Trails) in 2 weeks decided to take poster for him to sign (asked him to put date of clutch explosion and date he signed poster) . He gave me a funny look like maybe that wasn’t a great memory for him . Signed just before and just after 911 .

Have you been to his museum ? He has the parts they found of the clutch in a display case. It was the new Lenco 2 speed that failed and allowed the engine to over rev, exceeding the limits of the clutch.

This event is what spurred Don, and others , to pursue moving the drivers forward of the drivetrain. It also eliminated them getting burned from a blower explosion, which Don also suffered early in his career, when he first started using nitro.

Have not made it to museum , would love to go someday . There is a video of explosion on you tube , don’t know how to link . Interesting story behind his first 300 mph run , another racer ( Gary Clapshaw ) was in qualifications and gave up his seat so Big Daddy could break 300 mph . DG said it was one of his top 5 career highlights .
