Default '73 Chevelle SS454

Looks pretty clean - the seller suggests you could use it as a 'summer driver' or restore it (and whenever a seller mentions a car may need restoration, you had better lay eyes on it in person before bidding).

Looks like a fun driver nonetheless.

Im glad these cars are finally getting some attention. I personally have always liked these cars all the way up to the last year of this body style. Those 8" ralley wheels and raised white letter tires rock and have always been in my mind the nicest gm wheel ever made.

Noice!

My car would probably be a '73 SS if we hadn't gotten that stupid Monte Carlo instead.

Listing states that the seller is on the East Coast of Canada but all the pics are from Western Canada.

Those cars would have more appeal if they didn't have the gigantic bumpers.

???

the exterior pics? That's all Newfoundland - where I am from. It'll cost a small fortune to get that car out of there to anywhere in the USA.

Bumpers can be cut down and pulled in, which certainly helps.

Otherwise you could eat your lunch on there.

Random Yenko.net Member: "Hey Keith - what was the deal with that Monte Carlo?"

Me: "Oh - hey. Thanks for askin."

So in the summer of '72 it was time to replace our '68 GTO, since we kind of were on a four year cycle for mom's car.

Normally dad would order his cars and trucks directly from the factory, so that he could fine tune the content and get exactly what he wanted.

He happened to be driving past Applegate Chevrolet there in Flint and saw a new for '73 Monte Carlo that caught his eye. It was the dark maroon color, no vinyl top, rally wheels and had the black and grey herringbone weave interior, swivel buckets and gages. It was love at first sight and he ended up buying it off the lot.

The only problem was - it was cursed. It must have had a 1:1 rear axle ratio, because it would barely get up our driveway. Mom would hook that big ole front end on the side of the garage while backing out, and about the time we would get the car (and the garage) fixed she would hook the other side.

It all finally came to a crashing halt - literally - when she got T boned going through an intersection. That was the last straw. Dad pieced it back together and got rid of it as soon as humanly possible. He ordered my Chevelle, which was built in September of 1973, and the rest is, as they say, history.

You can see some of the vestigial elements, like the black and grey interior, rally gages, swivel buckets and rally wheels that he liked from the MC and carried over into my car.
