I like to use these discussions to learn, and I've never seen an SS with the body line side moulding.
I had a green L78 that had a body side moulding. That was in the mid 70s and we never checked to see if cars were real or not.If it had the right air cleaner it must be the right car.Mine came with an open chamber 427 and had a L78 sticker on the air cleaner. It was an SS for sure.I'll try to find some pics.

I remember the moulding was at least 1" wide if not wider. It was black in the centre with chrome on sides as far as I could remember.

You never know what color combos you will run into. I remember looking at a 70 L78 Nova that was Astro Blue, White top and light blue cloth interior. Actually looked pretty good as I recall

Post 70 Nova..

Discussions about interior and exterior choices, colors and features are a constant topic when it comes to the Nova. The Nova SS option had nothing to do with colors or interior options like bench or bucket seats and consoles.

The SS option got you the base SS engine [in this case the L-48 350/300hp small block] and a variety of mechanical & cosmetic items like; hood louvers, special SS grill and front bezels, rear panel with SS emblem, dual exhaust, E70 x 14 wide ovals, etc.

All of the paint colors and combos were available on any Nova from the rare 4cyl. all the way to the mighty L78.

So, when looking at a Nova advertised as an SS it helps to keep all of this mind...short of a born with driveline or solid documents it is often hard to prove the SS status...but, ultimately most cars speak for themselves, and if you know what to look for it can be figured out.

Neither was the LT/1 unless it was a Yenko Deuce, or a Canadian COPO. This is not one of them.

I think agree with the guys that speculate that this was not born an SS. That brake distribution block set-up sure doesn't look correct for '70 - likely a front disc brake conversion. If so, that rules out the possibility that this was an SS originally.

Here are a few pictures of my unrestored 1969 Nova SS. Notice there are no exterior group options, Thus no side mldgs or side chrome. Some people like it like this some do not. The Nova SS could be had in many different ways from the factory.

Lee, This picture of the red 1970 Nova SS must have been a GM prototype ? I believe you could only get a red interior in a 1969 Nova and if you did, It had to have bucket seats.

The outside is red too. It's prob a graphics design thing.

Anyway, I don't care for Gobi Beige (website says the wrong color, if I recall), but the gold vinyl top really helps make it attractive. I kinda have seen a similar thing with 4-4-2s – with black stripes, Bamboo sucks, but with gold stripes it's begging for me to take a closer look.
