Default Seam sealer glob

I'm cleaning up the trunk of my 69 Camaro and found this big glob of seam sealer. Should I leave it as is? My thought is it may look odd next to new paint. Maybe its worth a few bonus points for Bow-tie

I would certainly leave as is....it`s part of the cars DNA.
If you ever sell the car, and lose track of it.....you can easily pinpoint her Birth Mark

Mark B's Lemans Blue COPO has a piece of folded sandpaper in the trunk with spatter paint on it, with a corresponding bare spot on the trunk floor.

My 68 El Camino has a long strand of windshield adhesive from the base of the windshield to the dash pad; and they just painted over it.

When you say you are cleaning up - are you restoring the trunk and will be doing new splatter or you just doing a deep cleaning, but preserving the orig finish etc.

IMO - if your restoring with new splatter and cleaning up the caulk lines etc, then i would remove it if your going to this extent.

IF your not doing the above then definitely leave is as it is part of the original build/assembly process.

There is no harm in leaving it with a restored trunk, it might look a bit odd, kinda like a
factory defect in the paint, or a dent or a scratch in a restored finish.....

In the end your decision for sure.....hope this gives some food for thought :-)

I had all the globs and blobs of sealer kept as is during work on the trunk.

Such a beautiful mess.

Whenever we find 'defects' like these on cars we are restoring I tend to leave them there or replicate them as they are part of the history of the car and the process that went into building them.

Leave it. It's the maker's mark.

I remember my old 1970 hemi Charger's trunk. There was actually a hand print in the sprayed-on body shutz on the inner side of the quarter panel, visible in the trunk. It was the neatest thing to think that the guy that built the car on the assembly line left his signature there for posterity.

When I had my car apart there was a word spelled out in seam sealer on the passenger side outer cowl I think it was; might've been a line worker signing his name or a message for the next guy or gal down the line... not sure, but I didn't leave it on.

The area around it is also rough. It appears to over spray from the inner quarter panel sound deadener/undercoat. Would this be applied before or after the trunk paint?

@Eddie - These were cleaned out of the lower quarters The gas tank is also out of the car so I took the opportunity to weld up some holes where a battery was mounted.

It is amazing what you find down in those quarter pockets!
