Default Got to the test n tune session with......

what will become Tin Soldier IV soon.

Fabberge' Twin Turbo setup on the LFX 6banger. Other than that and magnaflow exhaust, stock.

Best run was 13 flat @ 111mph, worst 13:36. Could not get traction with the street tires.

Need to see what I can do with a set of drag radials or slicks.

Felt great to finally get the car on the track. Bummer that my son had track practice and could not make it, but my 16yo daughter followed me in her BMW 1 Series, and she ran her first track run.

She ran a 15:42 best. The track boss was really cool. He let me ride with her which is usually a no go, and I was kinda impressed that she stayed WOT all the way in her little bimmer.

Good news is we had a great father / daughter evening out, bad news is that I think she liked it too much and wants her brothers Camaro now.....

Her car:

TS IV best run of the evening (errr I am a little rusty):

Yea, but it was a total salvage. Hard hit in the front and the deal was I would pay for the parts but she had to do much of the work.

We stripped the old front end off and bought after market "cool" stuff like the CF hood and "m" looking parts and the rims cheaper than replacing them with real BMW parts.

Although, we found that the wrecking yard did replace the core support with one from a different series (3 series) to make it look not as wrecked, so that was a budget issue. It was not the 1 series core support that killed her budget, but all of the clips, bolts etc that are different.

She does work very hard as a Veterinary technician, which was a job she got at 15. They did not want someone under sixteen but she pled her case and went over the office managers head directly to the vet owner and got the job. Now shes one of the lead techs after school and weekends.

It is a nice first car, but as long as she continues to get good grades, keeps out of trouble and does good at work I don't mind.

This is what it looked like when we got it in:

And her starting the tear down with me:

Good idea on repairing a salvage car together for her first car, Did you have to get the subframe pulled??

Reminds me of my first car: a totalled '76 Camaro Rally Sport that I had to have the front sub pulled and then putall the parts together. Worked with my dad on it, and those were good times.

Congrats on your daughter being up for working with you to fix it.

"Projects" exactly like this ensure the youngins' really appreciate the vehicle -- built/rebuilt with their own hands!!!

Good on ya' ... TAZ

Thanks guys. Yes we did. A local friend pulled it at his shop and painted the front bumper n fender, but she did about 35% of the work under my direction.

She does pretty good on keeping it up, other than the typical teenage girl leaving clothes and empty starbucks cups inside. Drives me nuts!

She is already asking me what she can do to the beemer to 'supe' it up.

She took her time slip to school yesterday and can't wait to go again.
