What happened to the manual idle adjuster that came on this carb?

That's called a de-acceleration valve, was used on some manual trans QJets. Works on the same principals as the Ford anti-stall dashpots. Hard item to find, expensive when/if you can find one.

Hey Paul
Did not know how to call that part but i do know if you need to get it, it will set you back $75 to $100, maybe even more.
I had 2 spares when i had my L34 Chevelle SS396 and i sold both of them real quikly after i sold my car a few years back.
Just trying to suggest that if you do buy this type of carb, get it with the de-acceleration valve.
Thanks Eric for letting us know what that part is called.
