Default Baltimore Key Bridge Collapse

Thoughts and prayers for the families of those lost today when Baltimore’s Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a Container ship.
Lots of news/pictures, even videos of the impact/collapse are on Google, sorry but I just don’t feel like posting or linking any of it.
More prayers also concern for survivors yet to be found also the Search and Rescue workers in danger right now trying find and save them.

Saw the vids first thing this morning. It just collapsed before our eyes. Yes, prayers for the workers on that bridge who are missing. At least the police had enough forewarning to stop the vehicle travel before the ship hit.
The collapse is eerily similar to the 35W bridge, here in MPLS, that collapsed 17 years ago.

Default Question

I’m sure there is a valid reason, but why aren’t there tug boats on each side of a large ship to escort them beyond such an important structure like this bridge.

It’s probably all about $$$$.
Well now it is all about ^^^^.

Unfortunately innocent lives were lost 😔.

Saw it on the news last night. Tragic thing to happen. You could see the ship go dark a few times before it hit. Luckily they were able to shut traffic down. I don't know why they didn't clear workers. Maybe they thought it wouldn't hit and take the bridge out.

There was less than a minute from the time the warning was announced to the ship hitting. One of the police was going to drive out and bring them back just when the whole thing came down. He never had the chance.
