Hard to say if Chicago will even be a go for this year as Covid is coming at the world with a new strain just about every other week it seems. The northern borders are locked down in both directions to everyone but essential workers, and there's no sign of that opening before year-end at best. I'd bet you won't see it open for another year from now. (April or May 2022 is my guess)

I know they just canceled the World of Wheels show here and that comes on the back of three other car shows just canceled in the US and Canada. And I'm sure there will be more. Besides, I'll have so much burnt rubber and dust built up on those yellow panels by end of the summer that most people wouldn't stop to look at this old banana. (lol)

I will post lots of videos though.

I'm now starting to reassemble the front end and with that, I took the old fiberglass stinger hood out to my body man hoping that he could work that into his schedule. It has a few cracks in the inner bracing that keeps the integrity of the hood...and after reviewing the hood with him today, he explained to me exactly what each area was going to need in terms of repair work before getting to the restoration of the top side.

In addition to the bracing, the top of the scoop has an inverted (or concave area) that has buckled down into a good size dent and that's going to need some relief work before the section can be reformed. He added that it may require a brace to help form it back into its original shape. I should have it back in a few weeks if all goes well.

The topside showing the concave section and the areas needing repairs.

Old repair that's again cracked right at the front center of the support brace.

Crack along the rear brace under the hood cowl.

Crack along the front brace to the right of the centerline.

I'm really hoping this sets the car off when it's all done and said (fingers crossed).

Ron started working on the hood yesterday and is attempting to get the concave area to pop back up and stay there. He'll work on that some more today and then he'll start working to fix its broken back as he calls it. Once those are templated and fully repaired, it will move outside so he can put on a full suit and strip the surface back to raw fiberglass. He'll then apply a new layer of fiberglass and resin to the entire surface before starting to bodywork all of the topsides. It's going to need about 20 hours of repair work to bring this hood around prior to paint. A very costly save but one I am hoping is worth it in the end?

I'll add some pics as it progresses along.

Here are some pics of the top side as it was stripped down today and the first layer of fiberglass was applied to one of the repair areas. Lots of work to come but real happy that he's getting on it for me.

Few more pics of the inside bracing being repaired with new fiberglass. Ron tells me the hood has been repaired at least twice in its life. Third time lucky I said. (ha)

Very interesting hood... Was this made by A&A Fiberglass? Many differences between this "original" hood and my reproduction hood. My entire hood was gel coated giving the underside a more refined smooth, but very wavy, look. Yours looks more "homemade". I really like how it looks, reminds be of a race boat.
