Default Clippinger Special Paint Camaros

Does anyone know what happen with this car or has knowledge about the other special paint cars that Bob Wingate ordered and/or sold?

Not interested in the story behind this car being converted or not. Just curious about the special paint and the codes.

I don't have knowledge about them but I saw a special paint 68 Camaro once from Clippinger Chevrolet at the Pomona Swap meet. The car was pretty ratty and was orange. It did have an MQ suffix code L78 in the car but the partial VIN wasn't present.4 speed with Hurst v gate. Several day two mods on the car. The seller found it in Covina in someone's driveway and was selling the car at Pomona. This was about 3 years ago. For a California car it was rough but had black plate with Clippinger frames.

Probably this car. I have it in my files. I'm more interested in 67's though.

I think that red one was owned by a guy named Chad and it looked like it was originally British Racing Green or something similar. Not to be confused with British Green which was a darker green '68 Camaro color. No idea if that Chad guy still has it or sold it.

Thanks for the reply Jon but I am more interested in the special paint cars from Clippinger as well as the codes after the 5Y on the trim tag. I understand the "L" and "229" more curious about the revision code "A" or "B" or "C" or in this case "D"

Darrell, I think the A, B, C or D represent the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th job done with that particular "229" special paint color. 229 would be the batch, not a code for the paint.

Talking

I contacted him recently in my research of our special order paint car from dana Chevrolet. According to my friend Dave Herlinger (current owner of James Garner L88 #45 that bob ordered new ) he had a few conversations with bob regarding the special paint cars. He said that bob ordered many of them and it cost less then like $100 to do so and was able to get a pretty good premium for them. Bob told me that he helped Dana order some of the dana special paint cars but didn’t have any specific info on them. He may have specific info on the clippenger cars though.
