Default Help with Water Pump Numbers

Need some help with deciphering this water pump casting number and date code.

Is this "3853692" or "3953692".

And "E 7 8" translates to May 7, 1968 - correct ?

What would this fit ?

Thanks

According to the chart on Camaros.org the "3953692" was only used on the 302 in 1969. This pump is dated May 7, 1968 which leads me to believe this is a "3853692" casting.
If that is so, then its not a camaro water pump according to that chart.
Any help with what it came off of is appreciated.

Thanks "Z28" - I appreciate your help and info.

Can't find any reference to a GM casting number with the '8'.
Certainly early for a '69 model year part, but not surprised if castings were being made early to evaluate and ensure readiness for the changeover to the long style pump design.
FWIW, pretty sure that water pump was offered up in the classifieds here a few months ago.

I have had and sold several early castings like this. Nothing that early but it isn't surprising.

And technically used on all 69 small blocks not just the 302.

It's the same water pump. I was not very observant, I didn't pay attention to it being a May 1968 pump. I went off of the 3953692 casting number, saw "May" and just assumed it was 1969. Whoops.

Some more questions for you guys. As I research pictures of casting numbers it appears all of the "8"s have a gap in the center of the "8". The 2nd number on my casting number doesn't have this gap.

So it appears to just be a sloppy cast "9" ?

ZLP955 you said you couldn't find any reference to a casting number of "3853692", which would make this a "3953692" water pump.

In what scenario would someone want a 1969 water pump with a May 1968 date ?

Thanks again for all you help and information.
