No, I believe he is correct.
That motor came with the 3groove #3869978 pulley.
I screwed up last weekend at a swapmeet and walked right by one and forgot to go back before I left.

WP pulley...480 is correct ( superceeds this # 3906656 7.25"
Crank pulley....978 is correct, has 3 grooves. (make sure it is the correct diameter)BUT if you are not going to install the idler pulley and bracket, use the 2 groove belt pulley.
NOW, you also have to get the correct PS bracket and pulley, also the alternator bracket and pulley, along with the correct water pump.
It will take you awhile, some trial and error needed. Unless you have a non-numbers matching car, then you can substitute some other pulley numbers.
*** NOTE...get the correct measurements for each pulley, most are listed in the parts book.

PM if you need more help

I have a 1966 Biscayne L72 car with the idler pulley. The crank pulley is a 3 groove cast iron and the power steering pulley is cast also. I'm not saying this is correct but sure looks period correct.

It's a 3 groove pulley. That provided list is from Leigh Scotts website!
He is the '66 Full Size Chevy Guru. Super guy too!!

If the car your getting parts for isn't an original L72, then yes, feel free to substitute.
