Back in the early middle 70s i looked at 4 1969 Z-28 Camaros for sale. Could of bought them all for abot 2,500.00 dollars a piece. Found one on a used Chevy Dealership that was traded in. To this day i kick myself for not buying all of them, would of detailed them all and stored them. I am sure we all have stories like this.

Back I’d say in 1999/2000 my father bought a beat up 86 Monte Carlo SS off the side of the road for $500! Drove it home and it sat for a while and I ask him what he was gonna do with it and he says you want it you can have it.I took it home pulled the small block 400 turbo out of it and sold the body! A friend stopped over one night and we were standing there shooting the sh@t and hes looking at that small block and says you know that’s a 69 DZ 302 right! So needless to say I listed it in the old trading times for best offer and the first guy that looked at it gave me $4500 for it!

In 1969 my father bought his GTO new (still owns it) And by 1970 he was looking for a second car as my mother needed something. Our neighbor had a 69 Z/28 he bought new and was now looking to sell. Frost Green, white interior and a Rally Sport. He wanted $2500 for it. I remember my father talking about how good of a deal that was for a 1 year old car. Dad even test drove and liked the car, he had always had high strung small blocks with 4 speeds prior to the GTO purchase, but in the end just couldn't swing 2 car payments and had to pass on it. He ended up buying a cheap Honda motorcycle to ride to work so my mother could drive the GTO.

Fast forward, I own a 69 RS Z/28 that is also Frost Green with white interior. Not the same car, but it reminds dad of the one that got away.

I swapped a dirt bike I got for nothing for a 69 Z-RS combo roller that had a ton of options in 1979.

I think we all have "woulda coulda" stories.
In 1973 I went to look at a 62 Impala SS convertible 409 (409 hp) 4 Speed. Guy was asking $500. Wasn't my favourite colour (Coronna Cream I believe) and the back window was cracked & falling apart. Offered him $300. Said he wouldn't take less than $450. I walked away.

Bought my first car on 09-22-1978. 1969 Firebird convertible for $550.

I knew a guy for that had a 1967 427 Corvette convertible(Marina Blue). He put it up for sale in 1981 for $5,400 to buy a station wagon. I had the '69 Firebird and a '77 Jimmy at the time. He would not take the Jimmy in trade so I put it up for sale. He sold the Vette before I could sell the Jimmy so I traded the Jimmy for a '78 Trans Am.

For what it's worth, I DID buy a complete yet un-assembled '69 Dz 302 COMPLETE with NEW GM crank back in the '90's off my uncle.

He was always a racer, and at the time it was dirt modifieds. He had 6 or 7 BBc, mostly 427's and he said they were crate L-88. I know he also had a LS-7 crate motor too. All his stuff ran alum heads. But he always kept his eyes open for stuff and he would buy stuff to sell. He claimed he had a Buick 455 with stage II heads and this 302. So I was playing with stuff at the time so he sold it to me complete with a new is the box factory GM crank. I did end up flipping it for a complete 340 6pak motor because at the time I was driving a '68 GTX 440-4sp Dana 4:10 Convert, and bought a '68 GTS 340 dart rolling.
