Not true. The 74 L82 had 202 screw in stud heads,O Rocker arms, steel crank, pink rods, forged pistons windage tray. Basically the same as a LT1 with a hydraulic cam cast intake and quadrajet carb. Non AC cars got the deep groove pulleys. The 73 and 74 L82 engines made 10 hp less that the 71 72 LT1.

There were stock 74 Z/28’s that would wipe the floor with many 60’s era muscle cars. Property tuned they were as fast as a low compression LT-1. CARS magazine hi performance car of the year in 1974 for that reason. |

Thanks for the info on the '74 Z engines, pretty interesting stuff.
Charlie, how does yours drive? I love that one you have.

Back around the year 2000 that car was still a very nice survivor with its original tires. The interior looks like it just needs a good cleaning, the console is still nice. Shame on that guy or lady.

Overall there were quite a few '74 Z28s built, and the 2nd generation Camaro forum NastyZ28 shows production count at 13,802. However the one you found it pretty unusual with the Lime Yellow paint (Code 40) and a 4-speed.
https://nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro74.html As others have mentioned it's pretty remarkable how original the entire car is, especially the engine bay, retaining the original air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, smog, etc. It might be a bear to restore but it would be one cool ride when it's done!

I hardly drive it. Funny thing happened the other day when I started it to move it. To put it in reverse you have to pull up on the shifter. I pulled up and the shift handle pulled out of the shifter. Was probably never properly seated in the shifter.

What a waste, I'm sure it was a good looking car when new.
"flat back window, no-A/C, 4-speed Z/28 was the end of an era..." Yes it was. Even though technology has given us a lot of newer cars with great performance and comfort, for me, it's just not as exciting. I guess I'm just old lol. |

Looks about $65,000 away from being a $25,000 car.
