Default 1970 Camaro L78 - Project

1970 Camaro L78 Project

It is with great reluctance but I have decided to sell my 1970 Camaro L78 project. I am giving the members of this site the first opportunity since everyone was so helpful in verifying the car before I purchased it. I will be extremely candid and forthright with everything I know about the car and its history. I was very lucky when I purchased the car as it was very complete and came with lots of NOS parts. As most of you know, they only made 600 L78 Camaro’s in 1970 and from what I can gather very few have the original driveline and docs.
Brief Description
Basic info:
1970 Camaro SS 396 / 375hp – original/ born with CKO motor, M21 Trans and COX (3:55) rear.
Color is Green Mist, Green Vinyl Top and Standard Green Interior
I have almost all of the hard to find parts for the call like: BB fan Shroud, Radiator, Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner, Shifter with all rods, Power Booster, exhaust manifolds, CL wheels etc. The original gauge cluster is still in the car.

Trim Tag
TRIM TAG
ST 70 12487 NOR270003BDY
TR 723 45 G PNT
04C L78

Condition
The body does have some dings, dents and light surface rust but is very solid. According to the second owner the right quarter panel was replaced because a young girl hit him shortly after purchasing the car.
History
I purchased this car from the third owner who is a friend of mine. The car was sold new from John Smith Chevrolet in Atlanta on 7/14/1971 (yes it sat on the lot for over a year) and I have the original sales invoice as well as the warranty transfer to the second owner on 3/30/1972 at East Point Chevrolet in East Point Ga. The warranty transfer has a clear imprint of the Protect – O – Plate.
The engine and transmission are currently out of the car. The engine has just been rebuilt (.030 over) to factory specs. The majority of the engine components have been restored - carb, water pump, starter, manifolds, dist, pulleys etc. but they have not been bolted on yet. Restorations were performed by Jeff Dotterer, Jerry MacNeish or Eric Jackson.

The Third owner purchased the car 12/28/1988 from an ad in either Hemmings or Car Collector. He intended to restore the car and purchased a lot of NOS parts. These parts will go with the car. Some of them may not be needed for the restoration but they include: right quarter, left fender, Rear panel, trunk lid and many smaller items.
I have an excel spread sheet that break down the majority of the original and NOS parts that come with the car.
This should be a very straight forward restoration

Asking: $27,500 or best offer.
Interested parties please send me a PM or email at [email protected] to set up a time to talk or see the car. Additional Photos available by request.

We've seen a few project L78s come up but this one is by far the best documented and most complete. Anyone wishing to enter the "70 L78 Circle" would be hard pressed to find a better car.. Good luck with the sale Nils.

And man it came with the dual snorkel NOS in the box to!!

I could not agree more, If I had the extra coin laying around for this car it would be in my garage. You should have No Problem getting the asking price.

I too think that this is a great candidate for restoration and will be stunning when finished! Very rare color combination, I really like it alot, but then I'm partial to green second gen Camaros! I hope someone from this site buys it and posts pics when finished.....good luck with the sale!
