Default 1970 Camaro Rear Window Defroster

Anybody ever run across? While working on the 1970 L-78 Camaro I just bought I found the original rear window defroster that was never hooked up. No hole was cut in the package tray and no switch was put in the dash. I'm positive this is the way it came from the factory. I'm just curious if anyone else has seen this.

Thanks

Nils, By the way Great find, been following all the posts. Looks like it's wired and the vent part in the tray is missing. Looks like there has been work done to the package tray doesn't look like the original material. the wires must go some place, I would look close under the dash.
Here's a pic of my original set up, If I can help let me know.

Jack, Is that a Speaker cover to the left of the defroster?
BTW, Nice Spare Tire. That tire looks as though it has never touched the ground.

Your right on the tire Mark, never been on the ground. And yes that is the speaker box, must of been to keep the sound in the car, not the truck and outside the car.

That plastic ducting piece reminds me of the one on the '67 Z-28 cowl air induction kit....they did say it would be supplied in the trunk! ~ Pete

Sorry I didn't reply earlier but I've been out of town.

I guess it is possible that the second owner took out/ replaced package tray when they added after market speakers but it looks pretty weathered. I'll trace the wires as I dissasemble the car for restoration.

thanks for the information.
