Painting underside of Cowl Hood 76 Yellow
Can anyone tell me how the underside of a cowl hood was painted from the factory? For instance, does the yellow only get sprayed down along the edges on the side of the hood, or did they paint the leading edges on the underside as well?
Also, how is the back edge of the hood finished? Somehow I am picturing the back edges being black on the underside with a black flapper door frame but would think some overspray got the underside as the cart went by with the front end parts laid out? I read there was a one-inch gap between the side panels but I'm unsure about the back edge of the cowl and how it was sprayed on the cart? I'd really like to see a picture of an original 76 cowl hood opened up if anybody has one? I'm looking to do mine as a factory appearing hood. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks again Joe.
Those pictures showing the leading edge of David Beem's hood should help out a lot. I'd still like to know if there was any overspray along the back edge of the cowl, or more specifically around the opening for the flapper door frame.

There is a mist of yellow on the back underside of the hood... this being the case I believe that the rear of the hood was painted yellow...
I have a shot of the rear lip and it shows full yellow coverage. -FWIW if you set up the front end panels on a buck with a 1-2" gap between hood fenders valences and then shoot them you will get coverage which should mimic Chevrolet assembly Norwood. As far as body coverage... Resist the temptation to turn the gun nozzle pointing UP... they were on reciprocating rails at Fisher Norwood and the gun more or less stayed horizontal which is why the lower rockers are light, the under lips of the quarters are light and the lower rear valence lip is light... Not the best photo however you can see the light coverage on the lower lip of the tail pan,

Thanks for the info and for also chiming in here James. I think we now have a plan for how we're going to paint the hood. Shouldn't be long now.

Don't know if this will help you at all. It's a shot of a Z/28 right from the factory to Hot Rod for an article. It's a flat hood but I would think it wouldn't make a difference as wouldn't they paint them the same way they did a cowl hood? I know - B & W. So maybe not too much help. The color is Hugger Orange BTW

This is from Stefanos yellow Z/28 project many years back. Had some excellent pics of original features.
