1970 Chevelle "BD" tire pressure details.
Greetings all,
I am in the midst of a project to faithfully recreate restoration detailing decals for the 1970 Chevelle community. I'm currently in search of surviving examples (whole or partial at this point) of the BD tire pressure decal. My reference so far is almost there, however I'm missing two major areas: #1 - the complete part number. I can read all but the last digit: 398218_ Can anyone provide a photo of the complete number? #2 - left-side middle... which covers the loading details. A photo of this missing fragment is also greatly appreciated/needed. I could technically "guess" and use the info from other decal that are similar (EZ & BC), however I would prefer to be as close to actual as possible. Photos included for detail and clarity of what I'm missing. Thank you! |

You may want to Check with Don Lightfoot. Don makes the very BEST correct reproduction decals for the 1969 Chevrolet. Not sure if Don makes anything for the 1970 Model?
Dan

Hi Dan. Firstly, I'm making my own series of decals for 1970 Chevelle SS models in the same exacting spirit as Don L.
Secondly, Don's work doesn't cover what I'm doing, though I will ask him to see if he has any reference materials that may help me out. Thank you for this potential lead. M |

FWIW - the originals are printed on metalized Beer Bottle label stock which has some wet strength.
The printing process is flexo or direct impact using a flexible image plate to directly print onto the substrate - you can tell this by the "squish out" leaving the centers of the letters showing substrate and the edges looking heavy... this is from the printing plate touching the surface and pushing the ink away from the impressed area. When the plate draws back it leaves the "kiss". Offset printing uses a printing plate to transfer the image to a carrier blanket and the blanket transfers the image to the substrate, - this process uses much less ink per sq inch and thus produces a much crisper image- it typically shows as tiny little dots under a loop - the number of dots per inch is the "screen" resolution. I sold pulp, paper, paperboards, and ultimately printing 20+ years ago.

I was an Art Director in NYC advertising agencies for many many MANY years and have done a lot of print. I'm **just** old enough to have experience photo-setting type at the start of my career. As such, the dirth of quality decals out there has sent me on this path. Here is a coolant label I did compared to a surviving original. (on second look, that is not the final version as I fixed the size of the date.) |
