Default check my logic on a 70 GTO price recommendation

My friend with the 70 judge convert, is selling a 70 gto to one of his very close friends. He already let him take the car and insure it, and soon they are going to work out the price.

Its a rust free california car, never apart, dark green, with parchment interior. Its a 3spd.

He said its really clean and drives really nice. All his other stuff is nice, so picture this is truely a nice solid numbers matching never hit rust free car with nice paint. He said the interior could be redone to be perfect (its ok, but some of the california sun got to the back top of the seats, or maybe the panel by the window).

His friend wants to pay 12K. I said that just sounds low. I took NADA for the car (36K ave retail), and go 50% and odds are $18-20K is more likely a better number than 12K.

Am I correct? He is going to give that guy the target I said, unless I change it. Sorry as I have no pics. 12K just sounds wrong for a rust free GTO.

20 would be a fair price.

I think you are correct. 3 speed is a slight drag on value.

thanks everyone. He took the advice. He needs the price help, he is a great guy. Original owner of a 62 max wedge, which I learned alot about on our roadtrip Saturday looking at barn cars.
