Why in the world would they put a 4 cylinder in a vehicle that almost weighs 5,000 lb? Adding a turbo to that 4 cylinder is just going to make it work that much harder.
I wouldn't walk across the street to get one for free. |

To reduce costs and meet ever changing emissions requirements.

The turbo 4 has been the base engine in 1500 series pickups for several years now. These engines have been around long enough for any bugs worked out and improvements to have been made that they shouldn't be having catastrophic failures like Steve's daughter experienced, that's inexcusable.
I would demand a different replacement vehicle.

I love this country & would die defending it. After reading about the poor quality and ridiculous service response, I have to question whether or not we’re ready to bring a lot of manufacturing back here. IMO decades of woke, DEI corporate & education policies have seriously wounded our manufacturing and service sectors. Elon seems to have re-introduced good engineering & manufacturing integrity though. Maybe meritocracy will return & prevail.
This is a huge subject with lots of differing opinions - forgive me if I’ve offended anyone. As a great mentor once told me - “eat the meat & spit out the bones” :-) |

My understanding is the engine assembly had 4 in stock and all allocated. The estimated lead time is 2 months. My daughter received info via AI response. I called customer service provided case # and forwarded to a voicemail and left message this morning. Awaiting call back...

I’ll always be loyal to GM because they were there for me when I needed a hand. They enabled me to get my first engineering degree via GMI & sent me to graduate school at their expense. However, I do recognize the reality of how badly their service has deteriorated over the years. Small example - my Denali got a recall for a software update. I called the selling dealer & was told that I could drop it off next week (update would take 2 hours - so impractical to wait). If I wanted a loaner car, my appointment would be in 2 1/2 weeks!
Now for first hand examples of the competition: 1. My wife’s Lexus SC430 is literally 21 years old (summer car with 42k miles). When she takes it in for service, they don’t even ask if she wants a loaner car until she drops her car off. They just give her a loaner on the spot (no charge). 2. When I told my son that I had to drop the Denali off for a software update, he was shocked! He said that his Tesla gets software updates while it’s sitting in his driveway. I empathize with Steve’s daughter soooo much. My experience is just inconvenience. Her experience put the family at risk. It just sucks that GM has gotten to this point :-( |

My 2024 Silverado also needs a software update, and the dealer said i would have to leave it for the whole day. No loaner car provided

So discouraging to see this Steve.
As others have said, thank God all are safe. Like so many of you guys, I feel an emotional loyalty to GM, especially Chevrolet. GM has gone through a few cycles of getting their butts kicked, then bouncing back to bring some really good products to market. Hopefully, they turn this around. In contrast, read post #23 in this thread: https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthre...hyundai&page=3 126k miles, NOT the original owner, and they still stepped up. Hyundai even gave Zack a loaner!!! The contrast in customer service is simply staggering. This statement also boggles my mind: "I own a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4-wheel drive with the 4-cylinder engine gets 10 -12 MPG city driving made it to 6000 miles so far, no problems" I get better mileage in my 04 Yukon XL Denali, with all wheel drive; and it has a 6.0 which is notorious for bad mileage!
