Default SCR24 and beyond

Well, another reunion has come and gone, well, actually 24. SCR24 went off without a hitch, starting with the meet and greet on Thursday with Jason’s BBQ. First time for us, awesome.

Friday kicked off the drag racing portion of the event, at historic Beech Bend Raceway. As usual the crew there was super nice, and understanding, as several racers were new to drag racing. I never tire of seeing supercars, as well as some really cool musclecars, go down the track. Subbing for Rob, who was unable to attend, I was given the task of defending Rob and the Yellow subs 2-year reign as Supercar Bracket Champions. I had not raced the sub in several years, so a few hiccups, driver, not car. In the end the sub made it three in a row, defeating last year’s runner up Drew Clary in the finals. The best race of the day was in the loser bracket finals where Mark Hassett’s ’68 Motion Camaro went up against Drew in our Yenko Deuce. Both drivers cut really good lights, with the Motion Camaro with a slight advantage. At the stripe it was the Motion Camaro by a bumper, but unfortunately broke out, giving the win to the Yenko.
In the musclecar shootout Keven Gass in his Chevelle showed us all how it is done. Dead on RTs and ETs.

Friday evening was the banquet, inside the Corvette Museum, alongside the supercars. Special guest speaker was Bob McClurg. Wow, what a career in journalism.
Saturday the doors open for the public to view not only the super cars inside the museum, but several musclecars park under the awning by the entrance to the museum.

Hard to believe it all started 24 years ago, but thanks to many, many supporters along the way, plans are now being made for SCR25 in 2022. The date will not be set until around the first of the year, but as always, will be late July with the same venues.
