Default 1969 tach question

have several tachs from original 69 camaros...3 of them have a needle that when flicked will go to redline and then return to zero , a few others when "flicked" to redline will return to 1000 and stop, next time will return to around 200 and stop. They can be manually returned to zero easily by hand. Is there a remedy for this or will installing them solve this issue.. meters seem fine except they seem to need a little lubrication?? down near 0. The rebuilders ive called of course, want to redo the entirre tach and dont give out free information any help appreciated

Could they just be gummed up from sitting . Could you use some WD-40 and lightly lube the pivot aeria's?
