I really like this quote from David Bunn from a post he made over at chevelles.com last year:

By 1970 we were already jaded,veteran, performance junkies having seen everything from 389 tri-powers,455 HOs,427 side oilers,428 SCJs,426 wedges, six paks,and hemis to L-79 fuelies, L-89 headed 396s,L-88s and ZL1 427s.
